Tuscan Rosé Wines: The Stars of the Warm Season

As the days grow longer and the air turns golden with the promise of summer, few wines feel as right for the season as a beautifully chilled glass of rosé. In Tuscany, where ancient vineyards meet modern winemaking rooted in sustainability, rosé wines are no longer an afterthought — they’re the stars of the warm season.

At Fattoria San Michele a Torri, our rosé offerings reflect both tradition and innovation. Made with organically grown grapes and natural, low-intervention methods, our rosé wines are vibrant, expressive, and designed to enhance the best of summer — from sunny aperitivos to al fresco dinners. Let’s take a closer look at what makes our Tuscan rosés stand out.

A Natural Choice: Sulfite-Free Rosé

Our Rosé IGT Toscana is a natural wine — which means it’s made without added sulfites and without chemical intervention, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. This approach demands not only respect for nature but also a deep understanding of the land and the winemaking process.

In the vineyard, we follow strict organic and biodynamic practices. No herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers are used. Instead, we encourage biodiversity with green manure, compost, and cover crops to support a self-sustaining ecosystem. The vines benefit from the natural balance of their environment, allowing them to express the purest form of the terroir.

At harvest we select only the best grapes of Grenache, Ciliegiolo, and Syrah. Fermentation is spontaneous, driven by wild yeasts found on the grape skins. This gives the wine a true sense of place — a taste that could only come from this corner of Tuscany.

The result? A rosé that’s honest, lively, and deeply connected to its roots.

Rosé IGT Toscana: Pure Summer in a Glass

The first of our seasonal favorites is the Rosé IGT Toscana. This wine is a beautiful expression of freshness and balance, with a pale cherry-pink color that immediately invites a sip.

Made with a brief contact between juice and grape skins — just a few hours — this rosé is fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve its fruity and floral character. The nose opens with notes of wild strawberries, rose petals, and a touch of citrus, while the palate delivers a crisp yet round structure, with refreshing acidity that carries through the finish.

Because of its versatility, this rosé pairs effortlessly with summer cuisine. It’s especially lovely alongside Italian antipasti — think prosciutto, salami, pecorino, or grilled vegetables — but it holds its own through the entire meal. Pasta with cherry tomatoes and basil, seafood risotto, grilled chicken, or even a Margherita pizza all make natural companions.

But its true charm lies in its drinkability. Whether you’re enjoying it at a garden picnic, on a rooftop with friends, or solo on the patio after a long day, this is the wine that defines summer.

Rosé Brut: A Sparkling Star

For festive occasions or those slow Sunday brunches, our Rosé Brut is the sparkling wine that delivers elegance with energy. It’s crafted with the same grapes — Grenache, Ciliegiolo, and Syrah — but vinified using the Charmat Method, which preserves its bright fruitiness and adds a fine, persistent perlage.

The grapes are softly pressed without maceration, and fermentation occurs at a cool 14°C to enhance the delicate aromas. After the second fermentation, frequent batonnage (stirring of the lees) brings finesse and complexity. The final result is a rosé spumante with a silky bubble, clean mouthfeel, and remarkable freshness.

In the glass, the wine shines with a vibrant cherry-pink hue. On the nose, it offers floral notes mingled with hints of almond and ripe peach. On the palate, it’s dry, crisp, and mouthwatering, with that signature Italian sapidità — savory freshness — that makes you want another glass.

This sparkling rosé is ideal as an aperitif, especially with bruschetta, seafood, or sushi. It’s also a welcome guest at brunch tables, pairing well with eggs, cured meats, smoked salmon, and fresh salads. And don’t underestimate its potential with fried foods — its acidity cuts through richness like a dream.

More Than Just a Summer Wine

In Tuscany, wine is never just a beverage. It’s a connection to the land, to history, and to the people who nurture it. Our rosé wines reflect that philosophy — crafted with care, bottled with honesty, and meant to be shared in good company.

Both our Rosé IGT and Rosé Brut offer complexity and depth that make them enjoyable year-round. They are best consumed within two years of harvest to preserve their freshness, but they’re not fleeting wines — they’re made to mark memories.

So as the sun sets later and the evenings grow warmer, let the season guide your glass. Here’s to summer, and to the wines that make it unforgettable. Cheers from Tuscany!
